What a fantastic time we had this summer at La Garangeoire!

Working in the holiday business you would think I would not leave it to the last minute to book my own holiday at La Garangeoire
, the superb 5 star Vendee campsite, would you? People who know the site are aware that it is so popular that you would struggle to get a mobile home there if you leave booking until much after January! Friends of ours were already booked in for 14 nights, having booked a year in advance as they were so keen to go there, and I think I debated on not wanting to infringe on their holiday but when we had a rare cancellation for 7 nights during the time our friends were going, I just jumped at the chance to go myself – checking of course with the friends that they were ok with that!!! Happily they were and we had the most fantastic time being just a couple of mobile homes away from them! Had I booked it earlier and had wanted to be right next to them that would not have been a problem as we are the only operator who will arrange this, subject to availability of course.
Everything about the site is “classy” and just lovely. There are like-minded families enjoying great facilities and having a relaxing time. You soon get into the swing of strolling up to the shop to buy your croissants and baguettes in the morning, then a relaxing breakfast on your mobile home’s decking before deciding your plans for the day ahead.
The beautiful lake at La Garangeoire was a great attraction for us (there are also three other lakes on the estate). There are picnic tables down by the lake so it is an ideal place for a relaxing lunch and for little ones to feed the ducks. My husband who enjoys painting found it a perfectly tranquil place to be with his watercolours and was even joined by a water vole on the bank. In the very early morning otters and deer can be seen by those fishing. Fishing is very popular and is free and rods and bait are available from Reception so you don’t have to take your own fishing equipment. There are pedalos, rowing boats and canoes all free to use and life jackets are available from Reception (just a small refundable deposit is required for the life jackets). My legs were in need of some exercise during my holiday (all those croissants had impacted on my fitness) and a pedalo race with our friends seemed like a good idea until out on the lake I realised it was so much harder work than I was expecting! I would definitely recommend spending time on the lake during your stay at La Garangeoire and to enjoy seeing the campsite’s woodland surroundings from a different a different view-point.
