Getting There by Sea
As there are no direct ferry routes between the UK and Portugal, passengers wishing to travel by sea are advised to take a ferry to the north west of Spain and travel by road from there. There is a service between Portsmouth and Santander which operates three times a week. Another service runs between Portsmouth and Bilbao three times a week.
Getting There by Air
Faro, Lisbon and Porto are the three major access points to Portugal, from the UK, by air. Throughout summer, there are direct flights to Faro from departure points in the UK including Glasgow, Newcastle and London Luton. For Lisbon, departure airports include Edinburgh, Liverpool and London Heathrow.
Hire a Car
When choosing campsites in Portugal for your summer holiday, it adds value to your holiday to have a car on hand to allow your family to pack in as many sights as possible during your trip. All major European car hire companies operate within Portugal including Hertz who have pick up points at all three major airports plus a local service in Portimao, the Algarve.
