Mountains and mountain ranges, five large lakes, wooded valleys and steep slopes characterise the unique natural landscape of green Sauerland in Germany. This is not only the perfect place for all kinds of outdoor activities like hiking, cycling and swimming, but you can also relax in thermal baths. Moreover, this is an area full of caves and old mines. Like the famous Atta cave, one of the most beautiful stalactite caves in Germany. Or travel back in time and visit castles and palaces and enjoy the view during a boat trip on the Biggesee.
Sauerland is called 'The Land of a Thousand Mountains' for a reason. If you look closely, you'll find no fewer than 2,711 mountains in Sauerland that are higher than 400 metres. They offer a panoramic view of the three nature parks of the Sauerland Rothaargebirge, Arnsberg Forest and Diemelsee. Throughout the beautiful Sauerland run kilometres of bicycle paths and the "Sauerland Walking Villages": an extensive network of certified hiking trails. For example, the Bigge-Lister hiking trail runs right past our holiday park on the Biggesee, a perfect starting point for your hike! In winter, the mountain landscape of Sauerland changes into a winter wonderland and turns the village of Winterberg into a winter sports paradise.
The crystal-clear water glistens in the sun, a breeze blows along the shores and sailing boats are passing by. Sauerland has five beautiful lakes, ideal if you love water sports! But it's also the right place for some rest and relaxation. Our holiday park EuroParcs Biggesee is located directly on the banks of the largest lake in Sauerland.
