Birds of Prey Demonstration
19:00 - 20:00
Sports field
During our birds of prey demonstrations, we fly various species of birds. Each bird of prey has its own way of flying, hunting, and feeding. Youll see falcons, buzzards, owls, eagles, and vultures, among others. Falcons are used for high-altitude flight. The peregrine falcon can reach speeds of up to 250 km/h in a dive to catch its prey. During the demonstration, we showcase this with a spectacular stalking flight. Buzzards, owls, and eagles are used for low-altitude flight. Here, youll experience up close how these impressive birds fly. The owls, in particular, will amaze you with their virtually silent flight. And how special is it when our eagle owls Svenja or Diego (wingspan 155 to 190 cm) fly toward you and land on your hand? An experience youll never forget. Our buzzards and eagles also fly right past the audience, so you can admire these imposing birds up close. In addition, our Harriss Hawks (desert buzzards) Jack, Lady, and Ziva demonstrate how they are used during the hunt to catch rabbits, hares, and pheasants. They might even land on your hand! Finally, youll meet our vulture, Elvis. Vultures are scavengers and are not actually classified as birds of prey. Elvis demonstrates his keen sense of smell by tracking down hidden carrion. Youll be amazed at how quickly he manages to find it!
