Visit one of the museums or travel back in time and board the Museum Steam Tram Hoorn-Medemblik. On the way the train stops in Twisk and Opperdoes. You can return by steam train or boat. Do you want to know more about the history of the city and the cheese market? Then plan a city walk or take an Alkmaar Cheese Cruise: this canal cruise departs from Waagplein. You could also enjoy shopping or enjoy a drink on a terrace in the pleasant centre of Alkmaar.

Indoor swimming pool Enkhuizerzand is the perfect place to swim laps in the competition pool, to paddle in the recreational pool or to slide down the water slide. Every year in September the Enkhuizer Harddraverij-day takes place at the trotting track. Prior to the race for the Grand Prix of Enkhuizen, there is, among other things, a parade of antique carriages and ring stabbing. The day will be concluded with fireworks.

In Museum Flevoland you discover how people used to live and learn all about the climate. At the Bataviawerf you get an idea of how they used to build ships and you can learn how to twist a rope yourself or drive a nail in the forge. Take a tour of the 'Batavia', the VOC ship where it all started for Michiel de Ruyter and which was also used for the movie.

The Beemster was an inland lake until it was drained in 1612. In the Beemsterpolder there are five fortresses that were part of a defensive ring: the Stelling from Amsterdam. The Defense Line is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Only Fortress 'aan de Nekkerweg' and 'Fortress Spijkerboor' are open to the public.
