Recreational area Geestmerambacht
Wander across fields of orchids and take a dip in recreational lake Zomerdel. In the Middle Ages, farmers made the marshy ground of Geestmerambacht suitable for agriculture. Nowadays it is a paradise for bird species such as the marsh harrier, the sparrow hawk and the buzzard. In addition, various plant species grow here. A nice place to walk or bike to explore. Around Zomerdel you will find nice little beaches and places to picnic, relax or just run around or climb into the adventure playground.
Bergen
In the nostalgic coastal town of Bergen, time seems to have stood still. Stroll past boutiques and art galleries of this artist village. The light and idyllic surroundings have always attracted writers and artists. During the summer months, art markets are held on the square around the Ruined Church. Admire Bergen's art in Museum Kranenburgh or experience an idyllic film evening in film theater Cinebergen in the middle of the forest.
Zee Aquarium
Immerse yourself in the beautiful underwater world during your visit to the Sea Aquarium. More than 300 different species of fish from all over the world can be seen in the renovated aquarium. Walk under the skeleton of a sperm whale, cross a pond with hungry piranhas and meet seals. A perfect day out if it rains.
National Park the Schoorl Dunes
It is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful coastal areas in the Netherlands: the Schoorl Dunes. Rugged forests, shifting dunes and vast heathlands characterize this area. In some places the dunes are 5 km wide and reach a height of 54 meters. There is an MTB route marked and you will find more than 60 km of marked bicycle routes. One of the most popular routes is the 45 km long Brede Duinenroute which takes you along most of the sand dunes and the picturesque village of Schoorl. Don't forget to conquer the Klimduin in the heart of Schoorl.
BroekerVeiling Museum
Come spend a day auctioning, boating and enjoying yourself at the oldest barge auction in the world. In the past, vegetables were presented here in a boat and were auctioned by the auction method. Since 1976, the building has been a museum where history and nostalgia meet.
Alpaca Eco Farm
Have you always wanted to meet alpacas? At Alpaca Eco Farm, you can come and admire these special and adorable animals, stroke them, feed them and even go for a walk with them. The alpaca farm in Egmond aan de Hoef is highly recommended for both young and old.
Zaanse Schans
It doesn't get any more Dutch than this! On the Zaanse Schans you step back in time and taste the atmosphere of the eighteenth and nineteenth century. There are lots of wooden houses, windmills, old workshops, barns and museums. Take a look at the cheese dairy, discover how they used to make bread in the bakery museum and watch clogs being made.
Hoorn
In the time of the East India Company, the historic harbor town of Hoorn was one of the main trading centers. Visit one of the museums or travel back in time and board the Museum Steam Tram Hoorn-Medemblik. On the way the train stops in Twisk and Opperdoes. You can return by steam train or boat. The driving schedule changes every day.
Enkhuizen
Everything in the historical center of Enkhuizen breathes the atmosphere of the Golden Age: from the beautiful monumental buildings to the imposing defenses. Dive into history in the Zuiderzee Museum: a cool museum for the whole family. Test how good you are at old Dutch games such as hooping and skittles. And have you ever walked around in clogs or seen how you look in traditional costume?
Amsterdam
Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands with its many canals, museums and markets. Admire Rembrandt's Night Watch in the Rijksmuseum, step inside the Van Gogh Museum or discover Anne Frank's hiding place. If you are in Amsterdam for the first time, a nostalgic canal cruise should of course not be missed. You can go shopping in the 9 streets (de 9 Straatjes), the Kalverstraat or the P.C. Hooftstraat.
Alkmaar
Welcome to the cheese city of Alkmaar! Every Friday morning between March and September you can watch the typical Dutch spectacle of the cheese carriers at Waagplein. Do you want to know more about the history of the city and the cheese market? Then plan a city walk or take an Alkmaar Cheese Cruise: this canal cruise departs from Waagplein. You could also enjoy shopping or enjoy a drink on a terrace in the pleasant centre of Alkmaar.

Petten aan Zee
In the small town of Petten you are far away from mass tourism. Enjoy the spacious sandy beach that according to the inhabitants of Petten is one of the most beautiful beaches in the Netherlands. It is nice and quiet and ideal for families with children!
Land van Fluwel
Please note: open from April
Welcome to the Land van Fluwel, a land full of adventure and enjoyment for young and old! The park is located in the middle of beautiful nature and offers many diverse and fun activities. Take off your shoes and root through the mud of the barefoot path, get lost in the corn maze or climb and clamber around in one of the many playgrounds. At the restaurant, you can enjoy a snack and a drink during your well-earned break.
Tulip fields Anna Paulowna
In the spring, the flower fields around Anna Pavlovna turn into a sea of color. The center of this flower region is located near Breezand, between Anna Pavlovna and Julianadorp. There are many walking and cycling routes so that you can enjoy the blooming tulip fields at the end of April, beginning of May. Also Flower Days are held during the flowering period.
Navy museum
The Naval Museum in Den Helder is located on the premises of the Royal Netherlands Navy and tells you everything about the history of the Dutch Navy. You can see uniforms and weapons, learn all about former Dutch naval heroes and climb aboard unique ships. In short, there is plenty to explore and experience on this large terrain!
Edam
Whoever says Edam, says cheese. Not surprisingly, the spherical cheeses have been known for centuries known all over the world. Discover the origins of this delicacy in Edam and be surprised by the historic centre of the old Zuiderzee town. In July and August you can experience for yourself how trade used to be conducted here during the Wednesday cheese market. You can also learn about the story of Edam cheese at the Cheese Market or at museum The Story of Edam Cheese.
Tip: Do you like cultural activities? Then visit Edam's museum, one of the two locations is the 'Steenen Coopmanshuys'. This is Edam's oldest house with a unique floating cellar.
Monnickendam
In Monnickendam, visit especially the Grote- or Sint Nicolaaskerk or the Speeltoren which is now part of the Waterlands Museum. With a small shopping center.

Schermer Windmills
In 1633, the reclamation of Lake Schermer began. The reclamation of this large lake required as many as 52 mills, 17 of which have been beautifully preserved. A beautiful place where some of these mills can be visited is Schermerhorn. Here you will find three beautiful mills. One of the three mills has been converted into a Museum Mill. Here you can learn all about the reclamation of the Schermeer and living and working in a polder mill. How unique is that?
Recreational area Het Twiske
One of the recreational areas in Waterland - north of Amsterdam - is Het Twiske. One third of this recreation area consists of water and offers plenty of opportunities for swimming, diving, surfing and sailing. As a recreation area, Het Twiske is popular with children, who can have fun here on and around the water. Het Twiske has a play ditch, splash pond and an adventure playground with tube fort, cableway, pirate ship, castle and ferries. There are also no fewer than seven beaches and a harbour. For nature lovers, it is a haven where they can cycle, walk, sail, ride horses and rollerblade undisturbed in a varied landscape.
