The Dutch coastal provinces of North and South Holland, and especially the province of Flevoland, are perfect examples of polder landscapes. Almost all of Flevoland was created after the construction of the Afsluitdijk in 1932, which transformed the former Zuiderzee into today's IJsselmeer.
